Breeding Long Coat German Shepherds

Our Mission is to maintain, preserve, and promote the German Shepherd working lines for future generations to enjoy as a healthy breed with solid structural and mental soundness. To educate potential German Shepherd owners about the breed and assist in determining suitability, with the goal of producing the finest long coat German Shepherds.

Alexanderhof dogs are DNA and DM Degenerative Myelopathy tested, x-rayed for elbow and hip dysplasia, and cleared with OFA Orthopedic Foundation for Animals  or German SV prior to breeding.
 
All of our dogs are our companions every day of the week and occasionally show dogs on the weekends. Our dogs are members of our family, live in our home with us, and have free run of the property. The parents and puppies are provided the best care including a premium diet and plenty of exercise. Our dogs are all fed a combination of top quality grain-free kibble, home cooked food, high quality moist food, and fresh bones.

Males stand about 24-26 inches at the shoulder and weigh 75-100 pounds. Females stand about 22-24 inches and weigh 60-80 pounds. German working and show lines tend to have a stockier, more muscular, and athletic build without severe angulation versus the American show lines which have leaner bodies, a more slender face, and more streamlined with steeply angled rears. These dogs are bred for show purposes, the breeders focusing almost exclusively on looks and movement, and the greater angulation the showier their gate.  

Past:  Born and raised in Germany, I fell in love with the German Shepherd breed. With close connections to the German and American military K-9 units, I obtained by my first Shepherds and started Schutzhund training. I married a USAF Staff Sergeant and moved stateside in the late sixties. After his retirement, from the military, we purchased a farm in Illinois and continued breeding, raising, and training German Shepherds.

I have fifty years of experience training canines, including thirty years of law enforcement training police K-9 and their handlers. This provided me the ability to work with my own dogs, in addition to many breeds of dogs through different stages from puppies to adult. Along with the assistance of the local Sheriff I was able to start the Henry County Sheriffs Auxiliary K-9 unit and was President for seven years. Several years later we started the Henry County Search and Rescue, of which I was President for seven additional years. During this time period I also served as Officer Friendly with my K-9, visiting local schools, nursing homes, clubs, and hosting clinics. I have finished dogs with CD, CDX, and conformation wins and titles at AKC and UKC shows.

Present: After my retirement as chief of police, we sold our farm and relocated to Georgia. I joined the Lawrenceville Kennel Club and worked as their Rally and Advanced Obedience instructor. Presently, I am the training director at our own  Alexanderhof Training Academy. I am an approved AKC, UKC, and Alliance of Therapy Dog evaluator.

Currently, all of my European German Shepherd’s have obtained their S.T.A.R. Puppy and CGC titles. In confirmation three are IABCA National and International Champions with two World Beauty Champions and three UKC Champions. Three have earned their AKC, CGC,  CGCA, CGCU, Obedience/Rally Titles, and UKC URO Titles.  Two have their Therapy Dog title and preparing to compete for a title as Personal Protection Dog.

Since training and the love for this breed is our priority, we have decided to go back into breeding with the goal of producing some of the finest long coat German Shepherds. Maintaining a small in home breeding program based on health, temperament, and beauty has always been our focus and will continue to be. We also love our dogs as family members, and each one is appreciated and raised in a loving environment.
